We live in a society where there is always somebody who needs help; whether it be the war overseas, AIDS in Africa, Cancer, Leukemia or any of the other major issues that are plaguing the world these days it can be hard to watch the news.
There is a saying that goes, ‘you can’t help everybody but everybody can help somebody.’ Here are a few ways to help improve your self by providing service to others; you will be pleased at how your life will improve.
1. Donate and Volunteer in Your Community
It can be easy to want to donate to the needy children across the seas, and while there are some very worthy organizations that are deserving of your funds outside of the United States perhaps you should consider doing some good in your own town.
Improving the lives of people in your community can only enrich your own life, and the people you are helping may very well be people that you come into contact with on a daily basis through yourself or somebody you know, so you could be a blessing to somebody.
Volunteering in your local soup kitchen, donating bags of groceries, visiting people in nursing homes, and participating in local marathons and walkathons to support community causes is a great way to stay involved in your community while feeling good about your own station in life, as well.
2. Make A Set Plan For Charities
If you are unable to do a lot of the footwork that you would like to do as far as helping other people go, consider dedicating yourself to one or two charities rather than spreading your funds too thin.
What is important to you in life? Do you have a soft spot for cancer or diabetes or children’s funds? Perhaps you know somebody who was afflicted with Leukemia or you want to donate to a battered women’s society.
Enrolling in a plan and making payments every month to the charity (or charities) of your choice is very rewarding all through the year, especially when it comes to tax time!
3. Reduce or Eliminate the Stressors in Your Life
If you have something in your life that is truly stressing on you, try cutting it out or cutting it down to as little as possible.
If your job is what stresses you out it can be rather difficult to just stop going, but you can consider a cut in hours or even a career-change. If the light is in sight, perhaps it will be that much easier for you to get through it.
However much helping other people can shed some light on your life, helping yourself is important as well. If you can’t help yourself, you can’t help anybody else, either.
There are some things in life that are destined to stress us out; kids and family responsibilities are just one of the things that can get us down, but self improvement is often about helping other people out and helping yourself as well.
